The Neuter Network was set up in late 2013 in order to specifically fund neuter and spay campaigns in Bulgaria.
It was originally a collaboration between Rachel who founded TwitchyNoses and Candy who runs Little Angels Rescue Bulgaria.
Bulgaria had little by way of organised and regular neutering campaigns at the time. Municipality neutering was barely carried out and if it was, it was often done very badly.

In early 2014, The NeuterNetwork carried out its first large neutering campaign in southern Bulgaria in conjunction with another dog rescue. Vets we knew kindly donated their time and skills and some equipment and we fund raised for the costs needed to cover veterinary supplies. We used Candy’s van for transport and over the course of 6 days neutered 184 animals (around 150 dogs and around 30 cats). Not all of these were straight forward and several dogs had complications including hernias, mammary tumours and womb infections.
In August of the same year we organised another smaller campaign completing sterlisation of 12 dogs and 3 cats.
In September 2014 another 35 animals were spayed and neutered as well as some individual cases.
Work continued in 2015 and 2016 helping local villagers neuter their animals and carrying out small campaigns with visiting vets.
In 2017 we visited various municipality shelters to try and set up regular neutering campaigns without much success but continued to neuter dogs and cats for villagers. The Neuter Network was officially registered as a non governmental organisation in Bulgaria to get charity status.
In 2018 we start to look at the idea of opening our own clinic to offer free spay and neuter and low cost veterinary treatment for village owned animals. And in the summer of 2018 an old village property was purchased for this purpose. It took a year of discussions, architects plans and meetings with the local municipality to finally get the go ahead for the clinic.
A builder was then brought onboard in 2019 to do the required work. Unfortunately he made off with over £20,000 that had been set aside for the renovations and in early 2020 it was decided to abandon the plan due to lack of funds and support and sell the building to try and re-coop some costs.
Following this Rachel decided to leave Bulgaria and move back to the UK. The Neuter Network was handed over to others to run but it never really flourished.
So in 2025 Rachel took back the name and Facebook page and it will now be run as the partner page to TwitchyNoses to raise funds and help carry out neutering campaigns where-ever there is a need for them.
